What do we do?
Burnside Telecom is a designer and manufacturer of fixed cellular wireless terminals, telephones and modems
Who should be using a fixed cellular terminal?
A fixed cellular terminal from Burnside Telecom lets you use your telephone, telephone system or your computer to make voice calls and send SMS text messages over the GSM wireless network. All models contain a wireless modem that offers data access to the Internet via a USB port.
If you are in a location where there are no landlines or installing a landline is too expensive or not feasible, a fixed cellular terminal could solve your communications problem. Typical applications are boats, lifts, temporary offices, exhibitions, open air events, outside broadcasting, telecare networks, social alarms or in any remote location.
A new version of Burnside’s terminal offers a ‘follow me’ service to those users who are out of the office like taxis, plumbers, service engineers and sales people. Their business demands that they are listed only on landline phone numbers but want their calls diverted to their mobile phone at minimal cost.
Who should be using a fixed cellular telephone?
A fixed cellular wireless phone provides an all in one device combining the simplicity and ease of use of a desktop telephone and the use it anywhere flexibility of a mobile phone. It makes an ideal ‘office mobile phone’ by those on ‘sharer’ tariffs since it can be shared by anyone and its not easily mislaid. The Burnside Desktop Mobile™ is also ideal for use by the elderly, infirm or disabled. Landline network operators are also using them as emergency replacements for landlines that have gone down.
All versions of Burnside’s telephone are equipped with wireless modems so they can also be used for Internet/email/PC fax communications and local firmware upgrades. Wall mounted and vandal resistant versions are now available.
Who should be using a fixed cellular wireless modem?
A fixed cellular modem provides access to Internet, email and PC fax over mobile networks. Unlike most PC card or USB connected modems Burnside modems use external aerials which mean that they can be used in locations where the mobile signal is very poor. Models in the range are capable of operating on GSM/GPRS/Edge/UMTS/HSDPA capable networks.
![]() | All products designed and manufactured by Burnside Telecom comply with the Restriction of Hazardous Substances Directive (RoHS) 2002/95/EC. This directive restricts the use of six hazardous materials in the manufacture of various types of electronic and electrical equipment. It is closely linked with the Waste Electrical and Eletronic Equipment Directive (WEEE) 2002/96/EC which sets collection, recycling and recovery targets for electrical goods. |
![]() | Between 5%-10% of the world's electrical power is wasted by electronic products in standby mode. In order to reduce one of the major causes of global warming Governments are now introducing directives to prohibit the purchase of devices consuming too much power in standby mode. A limit of 1 Watt is now commonplace. By the nature of Burnside's products they have to be able to operate in standby mode. Consequently our engineers have put great effort into producing designs that consume very small amounts of power. Burnside's newest terminals and phones consume only 50mW or one twentieth of 1 Watt. All Burnside products are available with internal backup batteries so are able to operate without mains power for long periods of time. Latest models may also be powered from solar panels. |
